COMMERCIAL UNION ASSURANCE COMPANY LIMITED OF LONDON (UNITED KINGDOM) EARLY 20TH CENTURY VINTAGE PAINTED ALUMINUM INSURANCE HANGING SIGN, With ANCHORA SALUTIS COAT OF ARMS, ORIGINAL LINK CHAIN(Circa 1920-1935)Early 20th century vintage British advertising & business decorated metal signage DIMENSIONS: 12″ Height x 20″ Width DESCRIPTION: Offered is this very handsome and fairly large piece of early 20th century British insurance business advertising and hanging aluminum metal signage. The graphic typography is slightly impressed upon the aluminum facia and is filled with black enamel paint. The round graphic iconography of the British ‘Anchora Salutis’ coat of arms has burnt sienna enamel paint filling the reservoir around the raised, slightly bas-relief, graphic iconography of the coat of arms. The sheet of aluminum is scrolled and decoratively cut at the four corners. Two machined, perforated holes are drilled into the top margin of the sign, with its original link hanging chain doing the work supporting the weight of the sign from a metal fastener above. The sign hasn’t been touched or altered in any form or fashion. It remains exactly as it was found and discovered in a New England estate. The black enamel paint shows some evidence of being previously handled but by and large is intact. The aluminum has some minor scuffs and/or slight abrasions. A terrific British metal sign. Handsome. CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall vintage condition.
